Falmouth Oyster Festival
Type: Festival
Falmouth Oyster Festival has become acknowledged as a must travel to event by many visitors and holiday makers from all over the country. Timed to coincide with the start of the oyster harvesting season in October (14th - 17th), the festival celebrates the quality of Cornish seafood and one of the last remaining oyster fisheries still dredging under sail and oar.
A celebrity chef will open the festival on Thursday morning (entrance £3). The remainder of the festival offers free entry. There will be oyster tasting, free cookery demonstrations and live music. There is also a Cornish crafts and produce marquee, oyster shucking competition, and children's shell painting.
This year will see the festival marquee throwing its doors open on Friday and Saturday evening with entertainment to keep the festival atmosphere alive until 11.00pm in the evenings.
As well as the evening highlights, a programme of music will run throughout the four day festival at Events Square in Falmouth. Genres range from Celtic harmonies and Cornish folk bands to jazz and shanty singing with Falmouth Shout, now a regular feature of Falmouth Oyster Festival, bringing the event to a suitable crescendo!
Entry to the festival is free (apart from the Opening Ceremony) – just buy a raffle ticket, with top prizes, to support the event. Tickets will be available at the reception desk throughout the festival, for full details of the festival programme please visit www.falmouthoysterfestival.co.uk
