Penryn
Penryn, founded in 1216, stands at the head of the Penryn River in a sheltered position and with a wealth of charm, character and history, is one of Cornwall’s most ancient towns. Penryn flourished as a medieval port long before Falmouth existed. By the 1600s, Penryn had a thriving trade in Cornish tin and copper. Today Penryn retains its heritage with a large proportion of buildings dating back to Tudor, Jacobean and Georgian times.
Penryn combines the new and the old with an environmentally sustainable development at Jubilee Wharf, with a waterside café and workshops, and some highly individual shops in the town among the listed buildings in the main street.
Visit Penryn Museum, located in the Town Hall, to find out more about the town’s remarkable history, and look out for the Penryn Heritage Trail booklet, which allows you a glimpse in the lives of Penryn people of the past.
