North Helford

Secluded and unspoilt, the Helford River’s tranquillity belies its buccaneering past. Approaching by water, it is easy to see what inspired Daphne du Maurier to set her tale of piracy in Frenchman’s Creek.

The lush wooded estuary of the Helford has breathtaking exotic gardens and pretty waterside villages. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the views. The village of Helford can be visited by ferry from Helford Passage during the summer months.

Easily reached from Falmouth, Mawnan Church is wonderfully sited overlooking the entrance of the Helford River. Walk along the coastal path and you will come to the small hamlet of Durgan. Just beyond you can find Glendurgan and Trebah, just two of the sub-tropical gardens set within sheltered wooden valleys which reach down to the Helford River.
